Second-Session Religious School Electives for Grades 3, 4, and 5

The following electives will be offered for students in grades 3, 4, and 5 during religious school in the 2018-2019 (5779) school year:

Teva - Nature
Teva is our nature program, in which learners will get to explore God, Torah, and values through the lens of nature and the outdoors. This class is based outdoors and takes advantage of the wonderful opportunities for outdoor learning that the Dell Jewish Community Campus provides. Through visits to Gan Yaniv, the trail, and the Xanadu Community Garden, learners will experience hands-on the connection between the Jewish people and the environment.

Shira - Music
Shira is an exciting exploration of Jewish texts, history and culture through the lens of music, as well as audio/visual media and video production. In Shira students write their own songs, create Jewish parodies of popular music, and even produce their own music video! Shira is all about Judaism, music, hands-on video production and being creative, so join Shira for a fun-filled musical Jewish learning adventure!

B'tayavon! - (Bon Appetit!)
B'tayavon is our cooking-based program. Join us as we travel the globe and back and explore the delicious smorgasbord of the Jewish world. Our 3rd-5th graders will learn about Jewish holidays, Jewish history, tradition, and different Jewish communities through cooking and food.

Joshua's Stage- (Drama)
This elective will give young thespians a chance to learn many elements of drama using biblical content, holiday stories, and folklore to bring it alive. Students will learn about pantomime, improvisation, and dialogue in addition to the components of drama such as sets, costumes, and stage management. This is the 3rd year of our partnership with Joshua's Stage, a program for students of all abilities through the use of the Creative Outlet Method, a process used to enhance every participant's unique abilities while providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and to increase their self-confidence.

PILOT TWO-HOUR COURSE!
Omanut - Art
Omanut is our PILOT art program in which learners get to explore the topics of God, Torah, Mitzvot and identity through the lens and modality of art. In Omanut learners will have the opportunity to spend time immersed in Jewish art, deepen their artistic skills, learn about many great Jewish artists and Jewish art forms, and create their own works of art based on their Jewish learning. At the end of the year, we will host an art gallery so that our young artists can share their creative journey.
