Planning under pressure can lead to unintended results. That's why most people plan for life's milestones: the birth of a child, a career, retirement. However, planning for the last chapter of life is something most of us would rather not think about.
The best time to plan is when you're under no pressure. Weighing your options and making your wishes known before a crisis arises can help both your peace of mind and your family's confidence in following your decisions, should there be a time when you can't speak for yourself.
To assist you and your families in this effort, Temple Beth Shalom, together with Hospice Austin, will be presenting an Advance Planning Session on February 10 at 3:00 p.m. utilizing The GIFT Project. The workshop is free of charge, but please RSVP.
The GIFT Project is an initiative of Hospice Austin, supported by the St. David's Foundation, to encourage advance care planning prior to a health care crisis. The presentations and discussions will include how to:
- Start the conversation
- Identify your wishes
- Decide who you would like to speak for you
- Discuss your wishes with loved ones
- Complete your advance directives
Professionals and volunteers from TBS will also be available to both provide a Jewish perspective on these most important issues and to provide information as to the various resources available from the Temple to assist in your planning.
