Madrichei Application 2023-2024
What is the Deadline to Apply?
The deadline to apply by the beginning of the school year is Friday, August 18, 2023. If you apply later, you may not get one of your top choices of grade.
What is the Pay?
- 8th graders will receive a $150 stipend to any NFTY or BBYO event.
- 9th graders will receive a $75 stipend per semester
-10th graders will receive $5/hr
-11th graders will receive $7.50/hr
-12th graders will receive $10/hr
-All madrichimot (8th-12th grade) will receive $10/hr for Hebrew school.
-All madrichimot can choose to receive community service hours instead of monetary compensation.
-Madrichimot who receive monetary compensation will be paid by check every other month, only for hours that were worked. Payment will be sent in the mail to the madrichei's home address.
*
Per Temple Beth Shalom's policies, all teachers and madrichimot will need to be vaccinated for Covid-19 in order to teach in-person, unless they have a medical exemption.
Why are certain classes waitlisted? *Updated 8/16*
We are thrilled that so many of you are enthusiastic about helping our younger students learn; however, this does mean that we are currently at capacity for madrichimot in most of our sessions! You can still indicate interest in working these sessions; however, there are currently no openings for madrichimot on those days. We are still looking for additional Religious School madrichimot in our first Sunday Session from 8:45-10:45 a.m.!
When will I know if I am accepted?
After applications are received, they will be reviewed by Amanda Leventhal - Youth and Congregational Engagement Coordinator. You will be sent an email to set up a time to meet over Zoom, and you will be invited to the first madrichimot training on Sunday, August 27, as a part of teacher orientation. Unless there are any concerns with your application or you are a late applicant, you will be sent your classroom placement(s) the week of August 20.
Please note that all madrichimot for the upcoming school year must be part of a Temple Beth Shalom 2023-2024 member unit. Acceptance into the hadracha program may be delayed until that condition is met.
When does Religious School start?
Sunday School will be starting on September 10th, and Hebrew School will be starting on September 13th/14th.

Communication
There will be 2 methods of communicating information throughout the year. Weekly emails will go out on Fridays to both madrichimot and parents/guardians and will contain information about the upcoming week as well as any other important information or reminders. We will also have a madrichimot GroupMe to allow for easier communication of brief reminders for the whole group. Madrichimot and parents/guardians will receive Amanda's cell number for any one-on-one communication.
Along with your email and phone number, please add at least 1 parent/guardian phone number and email address to our mailing list.

Tell us a little bit more about you.
*
Why do you want to be a madrichei?
*
What skills or talents do you bring to our program (playing a musical instrument, art, Hebrew, dancing, etc.)?
*
How would you like to be involved in the classroom (leading discussions, working one-on-one experience, teaching your own lesson, helping out with the day-to-day details, etc.)?
*
Describe your experience working with kids, either at Temple Beth Shalom or elsewhere (babysitting, tutoring, camp, etc.):
*
Give an example of a time when you felt the most helpful during a class? Please be specific.
Is there anything you'd like to share that might affect your performance in the classroom (including allergies)?
Note: this will
not
be taken into consideration for whether or not you will be a madrichei. We want to know so that we can support you as best as we can (i.e. if you have a pollen allergy, we wouldn't place you with the Judaism through Nature class).
Assignments
Please select which day(s) you are available and select your top

You only need to pick your grade assignment choices for the session(s) you selected.

General Expectations
Please check off that you understand and agree to the following statements.
*
I understand and agree
I understand and agree
I recognize that email will be the primary form of communication for this job. I will check my email regularly and read each week's Friday email thoroughly. When a response is necessary, I will do so promptly and thoroughly. I understand that a failure to communicate in a timely and reliable manner could result in my dismissal.
*
I understand and agree
I understand and agree
I will communicate any absences to the Hadracha coordinator and my teacher no later than 48 hours in advance of class time (outside of illness or emergency). I understand that failure to communicate absences may result in my dismissal from the program.
*
I understand and agree
I understand and agree
I understand that I am not permitted to use my cell phone at work unless given permission by a teacher or the Hadracha coordinator. My cell phone will remain on silent, in my bag/pocket for the duration of the day. In the event that I take it out and look at it, I understand that any teacher or the Hadracha coordinator may ask me to forfeit my phone until the end of the work day and I must comply.
*
I understand and agree
I understand and agree
I understand that while I will be assigned to a specific class, there may be times when I am asked to work with a different class to meet the needs of the program that day. In these cases, I will go where I am asked to and work with the teacher for that class.
