Voting is as much an expression of our Jewish values as it is a reflection of our freedoms as Americans.  We encourage you to participate in all elections.

  • Vote in Run-off Elections

Our busy election month of May continues with run-off elections scheduled for Tuesday, May 24.  These are run-offs for several top state elected positions for both major political parties, as well as runoffs in various legislative districts for U.S. and Texas House and Senate seats. Here's a reminder of key dates:

May 13: last day to apply for a mail-in ballot

May 16-20: early in-person voting

May 24: Election Day

Reminder: any registered Texas voter can vote in the run-off.  However, if you voted in the March 1 primary election and choose to vote again in the May 24 run-off, you can only vote for candidates of the same political party in which you voted in March. Check with your county clerk's office for voting locations and sample ballots.

  • May 17: Gather to Protect and Demand Democracy

In the 2020 election, thousands of Reform Jews from across the U.S.  were the engine that powered the greatest turnout of voters in the last century. Register today for a virtual event on May 17 at 7 p.m. Central to mark the launch of the Reform Jewish Movement’s 2022 Every Voice, Every Vote Campaign.  Volunteers from across Texas sent thousands of pre-addressed postcards to under-engaged voters with the message, in keeping with our Jewish values, that each person's vote counts.

The 2022 election will be just as important as the 2020 election. Every Voice, Every Vote is a nonpartisan effort to protect and expand democracy by making sure that every voice is heard, and every vote is counted in our elections. We are building a campaign centered around partnership with people of Color-led organizations to ensure that a big, broad, diverse community shows up as voters this November to demand a democracy that includes everyone. We will once again provide trainings, resources, and action opportunities for you to engage in alongside thousands of leaders across the country.

Democracy hangs in the balance, and we can act together to strengthen it. Join us on May 17 as we renew our commitment to this vital work.

We will gather on Zoom from every corner of the U.S. to connect with one another, learn more about what is at stake in this election, and hear from leaders and partners who are leading the struggle to expand the electorate in the face of voter suppression. Together, we will commit to actions that will not only encourage more voter participation, but also increase our ability to have an impact on all the issues we care about. Register today!  Thank you!

One of our fundamental rights as Americans is the power of voting. With 2022 an active election year for state and local positions, here's a friendly reminder for congregants aged 65 and above or those who have challenges voting in person: Texas law requires that a qualified voter request a mail-in ballot each year.

Important note: Texas' new law, Senate Bill 1, requires that voters provide the same ID number — driver's license, Social Security, etc. — on their vote-by-mail application that they provided on their voter registration. Not sure which form of ID you used to register to vote? If you live in Travis County, you may call the Travis County Clerk's Office (512-238-VOTE) to request this information, which they keep on file. Or you can submit each type of ID the form requests with your mail-in ballot application form, and the clerk's office will look up your original voter registration to confirm you are eligible for a mail-in ballot.

If you plan to request a form, you are encouraged to submit your request as soon as possible allow plenty of time for mail delivery and form processing.

If you live in Travis County, download the following form to request voting by mail this year:
