Hebrew Program for 6th and 7th Graders

Hebrew is the language of the Jewish people. It is the language of the Torah, the language of our prayers, and the language spoken in our homeland, Israel. Hebrew language is part of the curriculum at Temple Beth Shalom from kindergarten through high school, whether it is learning the Hebrew aleph-bet (alphabet), prayers, or vocabulary used in Israel today.

Sixth graders continue to learn the prayers that are part of our daily, Shabbat, and holiday observances. At Temple Beth Shalom we enable students to understand the service liturgy and to develop into capable adults who feel comfortable praying in any Jewish setting and leading services in a Reform Jewish context.

Seventh graders may take an optional class that focuses on reading fluency.

Structure & Options

Hebrew is offered many times during the week. One session is required of all students enrolled in our 3rd-6th grade program as part of Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation. There is an optional 7th grade class. All students enrolled in Hebrew School are also expected to attend our Sunday Religious School.

Curriculum
Our self-paced approach to Hebrew makes our program unique. We allow students to progress at a rate that is comfortable for them.

Students in our 6th grade class are able to work at their own pace to learn prayers-practicing reading, studying vocabulary, and doing activities that help teach deeper meaning. Find more information about how the self-paced curriculum works.

Torah Trope
Our 6th or 7th graders are invited to learn Torah Trope through our Trope club one year before their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR TROPE CLUB.
