Summer Israel series with Professor Paul Liptz

SUMMER ISRAEL SERIES WITH PROFESSOR PAUL LIPTZ

Welcome to our Summer Israel Series with Professor Paul Liptz!  There will be three live sessions at 1 pm with  Paul Liptz, and three sessions of the replay that same evening at 7 pm with live Q&A from our Temple Beth Shalom rabbis.  Why the replays you ask? Professor Liptz will be in Israel this summer, so he can't be live with us in the States at night. We are excited to be able to offer more times so that this programming is accessible to more learners! You are welcome to join us for 1, 2, or all 3 sessions. Here is the schedule:

June 8th - 1 pm live, replay at 7 pm with our rabbis
JUDAISM IN THE JEWISH STATE
When the State of Israel was created, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion placed religion in the hands of the Orthodox in an attempt to unite the vastly different approaches and sensing that the secularists were not particularly interested in spiritual matters. Over the years with immigrants from over 105 different countries, Judaism has to serve different needs but change is challenging.

July 13th - 1 pm live, replay at 7 pm with our rabbis
THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL: A SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF A COMPLEX SOCIETY
A young and struggling State, Israel accepted Jewish immigrants from around the world and grappled with the goal of trying to make them one people, while at the same time recognizing the differences between them. We will discuss the three important ethnic groups from Yemen, Iraq and Ethiopia.

August 10th - 1 pm live, replay at 7 pm with our rabbis
ISRAEL IS NO LONGER ALONE: NEW ALLIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Israel initially had to deal with the Arab League boycott and the antagonism of the Communist world. The 1979 with the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt and the 1994 treaty with Jordan improved Israel's position in the Middle East. 2020 and 2021 have seen exciting new realities as a result of normalization with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco - what happens now?

The suggested donation is $18 for 1 session or $36 for all 3. We welcome additional donation amounts if you are able to support this community endeavor.
