In grade 4, students focus on seven values and how these values impact their relationship with themselves. Through these values, students explore Jewish text, history, t'filah, and holidays.

Session 1 Curriculum

Goals:
  • Deepen Textual Understanding – Help students explore the Prophets and Writings, building on their Torah knowledge to see how these texts shape the ongoing story of the Jewish people.
  • Discover Jewish Values – Encourage students to identify and reflect on the values and lessons found in biblical stories and how they relate to their own lives.
  • Explore Ideas About God – Create a safe, open space for students to express thoughts, questions, and feelings about God, fostering personal growth and spiritual curiosity.
  • Strengthen Jewish Identity – Support students in developing a deeper, more personal connection to Jewish tradition, texts, and community.
Subjects Covered:
  • In this fourth-grade class, students dive into the next chapters of Jewish text by exploring the Prophets and Writings. Building on their knowledge of Torah stories, they’ll meet new characters, uncover meaningful Jewish values, and see how these stories fit into the larger journey of the Jewish people.
  • Students will also continue their exploration of God, asking big questions and sharing their thoughts in a safe, respectful environment. Through discussion, storytelling, and reflection, they’ll deepen their understanding of Jewish tradition and their personal connection to it.
Session 2 Curriculum

We know – and celebrate – that there are many different ways to connect to Judaism and Jewish life. Through our tracks, Students are able to engage with Jewish learning in a very hands-on way and learn additional skills through the arts.

Omanut (Art Track)
Teva (Nature Track)
Omanut (oh-mah-noot) is our art program in which students get to explore the topics of Torah, Israel and holidays through the lens and modality of art.
In Omanut students will have the opportunity to spend time immersed in Jewish art, deepen their artistic skills and spirituality, learn about many of the great Jewish artists and Jewish art-forms, and create your own works of art based on Jewish topics.
For example, students in Omanut have studied the important Jews in history, and then created portraits in the style of Israeli artist Hanoch Piven. Please note that while tuition for Omanut is the same as for all other 3rd-5th grade programs, there is an additional Supply Fee.
Teva is our nature program, in which students will get to explore God, Torah, and Israel through the lens of nature and the outdoors.
This program includes opportunities for outdoor learning around the DJCC, Bull Creek, and beyond as we celebrate and learn about seasonal, eco, and wilderness-based traditions of the Jewish people.
For example, we might have discussions around a fire in an outdoor classroom/ “campground” on the campus, take a short hike in order to connect with the experience of Moses climbing Mt. Sinai to get the 10 commandments, or participate in a vegetable garden project connecting with Israel and the holidays. Join us in Teva, where we will make connections between Jewish life and the natural world!
