Zionism and Anti-Zionism: The History of Two Opposing Ideas (form for members and conversion students)

This form is for members and conversion students only. Non-member guests, please fill out this form instead.

Class meets from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 14, Jan. 21, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, and Feb. 11, 2026, at Temple Beth Shalom

For the first time in many decades, the debate between Zionism and anti-Zionism seems to be at the center of public discourse throughout America and the West. But what are the fundamental beliefs, assumptions, and narratives behind these two opposing ideas? Why do some embrace the idea of a state for the Jewish people, while others so passionately resist it? Rabbi Steinman will lead this class that will include specialized content from Dr. Einat Wilf—a former member of Israel's parliament and a scholar of Zionist thought—and Zoé Tara Zeigherman a filmmaker and former Tikvah fellow. No prior knowledge is necessary as, together, we explore this topic together.

Are there any accommodations that would make your learning experience better? Anything you would like Rabbi Steinman to know in advance?
