Third Grade

Your third-grade student will begin our formal Hebrew program, in addition to his or her regular religious-school studies.

Goals:
  • To introduce students to the stories and lessons of the Torah
  • To offer students opportunities to rehearse the actual celebrations of Jewish holidays.
  • To teach fluency in Hebrew reading
Subjects Covered:
  • Hebrew Bible: In third grade, learners delve into the world of Torah as they explore the Jewish values embedded in our history and tradition. Third graders start with the story of Adam and Eve and journey through the Five Books of Moses learning stories like the Exodus, the Holiness Code, the Spies and Mah Tovu all the way to the Death of Moses. Learners take with them the lessons these stories teach us and how to make them relevant in their daily lives.
  • Jewish Holidays: In third grade, students don't just learn about the Jewish holidays, they celebrate and rehearse the observation of the holidays. This is an active, experiential approach to Jewish holidays that fuses actual celebrations with role play, cooking, eating, shaking, sounding, and many other activities.
  • Hebrew Reading: Third grade is the beginning of our formal Hebrew program. See more information about our Hebrew program.
