For further information about the Social Action Committee of Temple Beth Shalom, please contact Kimberly Levinson Susan G. Komen - Race for the Cure Join Temple Beth Shalom's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Team! The race is November 4, 2007. You may know that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. What you may not know is that you can help these women and thousands of others in the fight against breast cancer. I will be participating in the 10th Annual Komen Austin Race for the CureŽ in Austin, Texas, with a great team of dedicated people. Join the fight by registering as part of our team or by supporting our efforts with a pledge contribution. The money raised through the Race will fund vital education, screening and treatment programs for underserved women in Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties and support the national search for a cure. Last year the TBS team raised over $1,500 for the cure for cancer. We all know someone who has had cancer. Let's show them how much we care by participating in the Race for the Cure. It's easy to join the race held on Auditorium Shores. Just sign in online at www.komenaustin.org then click Race for the Cure and follow directions on Join An Existing Team. Our team name is "Temple Beth Shalom Torah Trotters". If you are unable to join in the race fun, please consider making a contribution in our team name or sponsoring a participant. Any questions, email Lis Chozick. We need your support! Every step counts! Tzedakah Boxes Our congregation distributes the silver boxes at Shabbat Services and Sunday School. Several congregants travel to the women's prison in Gatesville to assist female "mom" inmates read and record on tape children's books. Those recordings are sent to their children to listen to over and over as a substitute for their mother's presence. The congregation gets letters of heartfelt praise from the kids-it makes you cry. If you have one or two Saturdays a year to spare, join this active group of volunteers. Contact Judy Fox.
