The Caring Community is Temple Beth Shalom's effort to be extended family to our congregants. As in a family, we celebrate the joys of life and rally in sorrow.

When a baby is born, a teddy bear wearing a Temple Beth Shalom onesie is hand delivered to our youngest members. The bear will willingly share its T-shirt with the newborn.

High school and college graduations are meaningful milestones. As we strive to maintain the connection between college students and the Temple community, we remember these students throughout the year with notes, e-mails and a holiday goodie bag.

During illness or hospitalization, a call is made to the member to see how our community can best assist. Help can come in the form of a meal, a visit, a phone call or childcare.

If a death occurs, anything the family feels will provide comfort is available such as food, personal visits, phone calls or organizing a minyan. If the loss is of a family member who lives elsewhere, a donation for a prayer book in the relative’s name is made to Temple Beth Shalom.

The Caring Community is a resource for you. If you learn of an event that we should be aware of, please contact our chairperson Shelley Fleishman or by phone at (512) 502-1961 or our Temple office manager Verna Hazlewood or by phone at (512) 735-8900
