MLK shabbat

Join Us for MLK Shabbat: Environmental Justice

What is environmental justice? It's defined as the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulation, and policies. We will explore this topic from a Jewish lens on MLK Shabbat, as clergy from both Temple Beth Shalom and Congregation Beth Israel lead Erev Shabbat Services. At Torah Study on Shabbat, Rabbi Folberg with CBI takes the lead in further discussions. Then join us Shabbat afternoon for a program and discussion on environmental justice, hosted on Zoom by CBI.

Friday night services will be livestreamed only (no in-person option). Torah Study and Shabbat afternoon programming will be conducted by Zoom. Please see details below about how to access the events.

We will explore the impact of our actions in our own homes and the world around us, then learn how to tackle these issues through a Jewish lens on environmental justice. This program for older teens and adults will take us from the elements--earth, fire, water, wind--to what climate change has to do with people. Join Institute of Southern Jewish Life Program Associate Sophie Bernstein to learn the importance of Shomer HaAdamah, or protecting the earth.
